Literature Text

She sat still in the chair listening to the rapid typing and rhythmic breathing of the man beside her. This was one of the rare moments in time where she found herself alone with him; however, he paid no attention to her. While on the other hand, she focused intently on him; taking in all of his features to the last miniscule detail.
His raven hair fell errantly around his pale skin, creating a strong contrast. Onyx eyes stared owlishly at the monitors in front of them. A long, slender finger tugged at his bottom lip. Clothing a size too big hung loosely around his slender form; hunched over with knees up against his chest, toes fidgeting at the edge of his seat. How could such an awkward man be so attractive to her?
His physical appearance definitely was out of the ordinary. Not only that, but his social skills were atrocious. However, she would never, even for a minute, doubt that the man was genius. Yet, she couldn’t quite place her feelings; they seemed to be much more than simple admiration. Why did she react so strongly to the odd man?
When his eyes met hers, her heart fluttered. The sound of his monotonous voice sparked a warm dusting of pink across her cheeks. The way he ate, walked, or truly did anything caused her to smile. If only this man felt the same way about her. What would life be like with him? Would he ever be interested in a family, or even a relationship? Was this feeling love?
“(y/n), are you alright?” asked the bewildered man. “You’ve been staring at me for the past five minutes. Would you like some cake? I could have Watari bring you some.”
“Oh, um, I-I’m okay… But thank you,” she responded quickly as she reentered reality, noticing a pair of eyes staring directly at her own.
“May I ask what you were doing?” he asked.
“Just thinking,” she replied sheepishly.
“About what?” he continued pushing.
“Oh, nothing in particular,” she answered. “I’ve been known to space off. Sorry, I’ll get back to work now.” With that she turned back to face her own glowing screen.
Not satisfied with that answer, the man pulled his chair up against hers; leaving the two mere inches apart. He noticed a faint blush dust her features. “By any chance, were you thinking of a love interest?” he questioned.
“What? No!” she responded shocked, blush deepening. If that weren’t enough, she also tensed, and avoided all eye contact.
“You know, it’s only normal for a person to seek a relationship,” he attempted to reassure her.
“Yes, well, that doesn’t make it any better,” she replied. “Why are you, of all people, so interested in my thoughts?”
“I don’t know enough about you,” he responded. “I find you quite intriguing, however predictable you may be.”
“‘Predictable’?” she questioned.
“Yes, you tend to make decisions that are fairly average; yet, the decisions you make are ones most others would ignore.”
“What?”
“You think differently than most people, but you still choose to follow the majority.”
“Ryuzaki, what are you trying to get at?” she asked as she could tell he was circling around something.
“You confuse me,” he stated plainly.
“Really?” she laughed. “I confuse you? Well, you confuse me! So, I guess we’re on the same page.”
The obsidian orbs continued peering into hers, trying to read her underlying feelings. He could definitely assume what they were; however, he couldn’t tell if she herself could identify them. Was she struggling as he was? Did she feel the same?
Positioning himself ever closer he asked, “Am I what you were thinking about?”
How could she get out of this one? As their noses were practically touching, she wasn’t able to stop the deep reddening of her face; lying at this point would be futile. “Possibly…” she said slowly.
With that, he thought for a minute; although he didn’t grant her any more space. Everything about her at that moment read nervous, and that continued to prove his theory. He then closed the remaining gap between them in a final test.
Her eyes widened in shock as she felt his soft lips push up against her own. He didn’t even give her the chance to kiss back, as he removed them almost as fast as he’d placed them. If it were possible, her face had become a shade closer to crimson; which in turn, confirmed his hypothesis.
“R-Ryuzaki?” she questioned.
“There was a 92.4 percent chance that you had strong feelings toward me, and there was a 94.5 percent chance that I had similar feelings toward you. Now I believe that there is a 99.3 percent chance that I was correct on my premise and that if I were to ask you, you would accept my invitation to ‘go out’ with me.”
“Are you asking me?” she asked in bewilderment.
“Yes,” he answered monotonously, onyx orbs still fastened on her and unwavering.
“Y-Yes!” she exclaimed. “I’d love to!”
“Alright,” he responded with a slight hint of a smile. “Then, we will plan on coffee tomorrow at the café by the park; not the one that Light-kun goes to?”
“Sounds great!” and with that she wrapped her arms around the peculiar man, taking in his scent which was faint of cake. He slowly moved his arms and embraced her as well.
He leaned up to connect their lips once more, and this time she had the chance to return and deepen the innocent kiss. He was still left indeterminate about why his heart rate sped up around her, or why she occasionally occupied his thoughts, or why for the first time ever he could consider himself ‘in love’; but whatever the reasons may be, he was glad that she, the one person he couldn’t fully comprehend, could be called his.
This is a fairly short fanfiction, and it will be posted on Quotev also (to clear up any potential ownership questions). Hope you enjoy :)
